On the border between Casco and Raymond, close to Route 302, is Thomas Pond. The majority of the pond is hidden from view by the road, but you may see a cove area from it. On Route 302, there is a public boat launch where many anglers launch their boats and enjoy excellent fishing in close proximity to the road.
The pond itself is approximately one mile long by one mile broad and extends over 533 acres; it is large enough to draw boats of various sorts but tiny enough to deter the larger motorboats. According to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Thomas Pond has a maximum depth of 64 feet, a mean depth of 22 feet, and a water quality assessment of “average.”
Living at Thomas Pond Waterfront homes:
On Thomas Pond, there is a calm atmosphere. In fact, this is where Nathaniel Hawthorne, the renowned writer of The Scarlet Letter and many other masterpieces in the 19th century, used to unwind when he was younger. Even a granite rock near the coastline called as Inspiration Chair
The 7.5 kilometres of shoreline are surrounded by tall white pines. The lake has a maximum depth of 64 feet and a surface area of 497 acres. Dingley Brook, the outlet, empties directly into Sebago Lake. The seashore is dotted with year-round and seasonal houses.
There are many different types of dwellings along the shoreline, from small summer camps to larger year-round residences. Despite being far from the sea or even out of sight of it, several homes have deeded access to it. Thomas Pond is a well-liked address among locals due to its simplicity of access to Route 302 and other southern locations. Visitors and non-resident property owners favor it for the same reason since it just takes 35 minutes to get to the Maine Turnpike.
The Raymond Waterways Protection Association and the Thomas Pond Improvement Association keep an eye on Thomas Pond’s health, as they do for so many of our lakes and ponds.
Economy of Thomas Pond:
Thomas Pond is a good location for managing both cold- and warm-water fisheries. Good bass and pickerel fishing can be supported by shallow, weedy coves, rocky shorelines, and a substantial forage base.
The pond also offers enough cool, well-oxygenated water to sustain a healthy trout and salmon population. The salmon’s primary source of food is smelted. Even though a high population of white perch competes with the trout and bass, the pond is popular with fishermen due to the perch’s large average size.
Any fish supplied in Thomas Pond have the potential to fall into Sebago Lake because the outlet of Thomas Pond drains straight into Sebago Lake. To do this, the brown trout management program was terminated many years ago.
